I am delighted to confirm that the 420 Academy will be in operation again for the Winter of 2016/2017 and into the Spring.
Overview:
The main aim of the ISA 420 Academy for this period will be to get an opportunity to train in better climate than what we get in Ireland during January and February to enable the development of the sailors through the Winter.
Academy programme:
- Palamos Christmas Regatta: December 15th – 22nd
- Training camp, Barcelona: January 26th – 29th
- Training camp, Barcelona: March 9th – 12th
- Italian Regatta Nazionale, Riva: March 22nd 26th
This year the Academy will be chosen based on the potential to perform in Summer 2017 and also 2018. Due to the necessity to miss school days in order to attend the training camps those in transition year will be looked at closely. As discussed with the sailors at the last open training complete commitment to the programme is required. In addition to sailing, Sports med Ireland will prescribe an exercise regime for each sailor that must be adhered to.
No 420 Academy dates will clash with open training of the Irish fleet as it would be our intention to get all the Irish boats sailing together whenever possible.
