2010 420 Season gets off to a chilly start

Baltimore 420 Camp

The 2010 420 sailing season got off to an early and frosty start, with 10 boats making their way down to Baltimore in West Cork.  Sailors made their way from all corners of Ireland, and two  boats ventured over from Denmark for the warmer weather.  It was great to see so many hardy sailors prepared to brave the elements.

The camp ran from 2nd  to the 6th January  The unfavourable forecast did not deter the sailors, and they made the most of the conditions with which they where faced.  Out of the 5 days, we only lost one day due to lack of breeze in the harbour and bay. The camp was run by coaches Tom Mapplebeck, Ian Martin and Rob Lehane.  Sincere thanks to Baltimore Sailing Club for the use of their facilities.

With freezing conditions every day, the sessions where kept short and sweet to ensure that sailors' concentration was maintained throughout the sessions.  The training provided an ideal opportunity to gear up for the up coming season, and with less than 12 weeks to the ISAF Trials, the sailors are preparing themselves for the next stage of training which is ahead of them.

The 420s will be on the water again wit their regular ISA/Club training towards the end of January. These dates will be announced shortly.  The next camp will be held in Schull, with the main focus of the camp being Racing Rules and their application in practice.  This camp runs from 11th to 14th February and several sailors have already sent their entry forms.  This four day camp is then followed by a five day camp in Baltimore from 15th to 19th February.

Those of you who have not yet completed entry forms are asked to do so without further delay, as we need to know who will be attending in order to ensure we have sufficient coaches.    For more information, contact tom at tom@curradinghy.com or 0862475551
