The fleet were delighted to welcome newcomers, Orlaith Thompson and Liz McDowell from MYC to their first event.

Race 1 saw 2 premature starters.  The fleet worked their way to the windward with most of the fleet sailing to the wrong mark, but the keen eye of Laura and Louise McCarthy did not get drawn to the temptation of sailing away from the right mark.  Laura and Louise where followed closely by Diana Kissane and Hazel O’Neill and Emma Geary and Niamh Connolly, who held onto these positions throughout the race.  The battle between the final boats changed throughout the race with Katie Gambier Ross and Ali Dix holding onto 4th place.

Race 2 got under way with a clean start for the fleet, Jane Butler with crew Dermott McMorrough got away to an early lead extending this throughout the race.  Diana and Hazel continued their success from the 1st race by sailing a solid race to finsih in 2nd, with Laura and Louise dropping back to 3rd after a poor start.  Rob Lehane and Iarlaith Kennedy worked their way through the fleet after a poor start to end in 4th

With the breeze starting to drop, race 3 quickly got underway to make the most of these perfect sailing conditions for this time of the year.  With Rob and Iarlaith getting away with a well executed start, the pair lead from start with Jane and Dermott hot on their heals.  With the breeze continuing to drop throughout the race, the decision to shorten the course saw the reamaining 11 boats drift to the finish as the wind died.

With a poor forecast for the Sunday, racing got underway early to make the most of what breeze was forecast, however, Sunday came with a cold brisk wind from the north east.

Race 4 got underway with Rob and Iarlaith getting off again to any early lead and extending this through to the finish, Diana and Hazel continued their consistent series scoring another 2nd place with Cian O’Regan and Scott Flanigan coming in 3rd.

The 5th race got underway quickly as the windchill continued to decrease, Diana and Hazel played the shifty conditions well to win the race, with Cian an Scott coming in 2nd and Laura and Louise scoring another 3rd place.

Race 6 started off with one boat over, the fleet spread over the course taking advantage of the shifts with Jamie Aplin and Jack Burke popping out in the lead and holding untill the end.  Diana and Hazel scored yet another 2nd place which meant they had won the event overall.  3rd place in race 6went to Cian and Scott.

The overall results saw Diana and Hazel in 1st, 2nd place went to Laura and Louise with Rob and Iarlaith coming in 3rd place.  Winners of  the silver fleet went to the brother and sister combination of Fiona and Patrick Daly.

The class would like to thank Sean and Carolyn O’Laiore for providing the committee boat, PJ McCarthy and Tony Connolly for their help on the committee boat and a special thanks to Richard Kissane for been the Race Officer and getting in 6 great races for the sailors, and to Alice Kissane for doing all the organisation on shore.
